The people who made it possible
A Bold Vision for the Future
In 2015, WE Charity celebrated its 20th anniversary and two decades of transformative local and global impacts. As part of this exciting milestone, we have articulated a bold vision for the future—we seek to empower an entire generation of young people and to transform education both locally and globally. This vision would not be possible without the generous support, time, and collaboration of incredible partners. We are deeply grateful for the support of the following generous benefactors who have helped chart the course for our next 20 years.
A Landmark Gift
The WE Global Learning Center became a reality thanks to the initial landmark gift of $15 million from long-term supporters Hartley Richardson, The Richardson Foundation, and David Aisenstat. Their remarkable generosity galvanized an exceptional community of like-minded change makers to action. They came together seamlessly to turn our vision into a reality.
As a result, WE has been able to expand and customize its service-learning programs. The WE GLC has become the address for people around the world eager to make a positive impact. Our doors, both the physical ones in Corktown, Toronto and the virtual ones online, are open to all.
We greatly appreciate the kindness and generosity of all of our benefactors who gave their support to this far-reaching project. A full list of additional supporters who have given life to this project can be found below.
More Than Just a Headquarters
The WE GLC is more than our headquarters. It is the hub for changemakers from around the world. We welcome local schools seeking to have their students explore and expand their understanding of global issues and to see how they can take action. Local businesses are also invited to host team retreats to explore the impact and benefits of socially conscious leadership.
In keeping with our goal of being a global center for changemakers, WE GLC has cutting-edge technology that allows our worldwide community of young people and educators to join us via our digital classroom. WE’s programming, leadership training, and professional development are at your fingertips anywhere in the world.
The WE GLC Features:
- Technology that facilitates the delivery of all of our programs to rural and marginalized communities, including indigenous and underserved youth and educators.
- Digital classrooms that allow WE Schools across Canada, the United States, the United Kingdom, and elsewhere to connect with us and participate in interactive learning experiences.
- Curated digital and print resources featuring best-of-class content.
- Outstanding resources for educators to support the connection between service-learning and educational outcomes, with an emphasis on Canada’s diversity that includes recent immigrants as well as indigenous and at-risk youth.
WE is one of the world’s largest organizations to work with young people. WE partners with over 16,000 schools and groups globally through the WE Schools educational program. We are honored to engage 4.3 million young people annually.
The WE GLC will allow us to continue this important work, transforming service-learning opportunities for millions of students, both in Canada and around the world. The WE GLC will inspire and strengthen a new generation of young leaders.
